Executive Pastor Job Description

General Description

The Executive Pastor is responsible for the overall leadership and direction of church staff, leading all functional areas in the accomplishment of the church’s mission. This includes outreach, arts, pastoral care, group life, student and children’s ministry areas as well as strategic planning, finance, administration, human resources, and operations.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Support the Senior Pastor in the accomplishment of the church’s mission through ministry effectiveness evaluation, discernment, decision making, planning and overall direction of church staff.
  2. Lead the ministry staff in the establishment and ongoing direction of ministries that effectively reach the church’s demographic, insuring the accomplishment of the overall mission.
  3. Ensure the operational readiness of the church through leadership and oversight of the support staff performing duties in administration, finance, human resources, supply, and facilities management.
  4. Facilitate the annual strategic planning process including evaluation of ministry performance; review of mission, vision, and core values; development of key objectives and tactics; and establishment of three year goals.
  5. Establish and maintain a set of key performance measures (KPMs) that provide the Senior Pastor and church staff with ongoing visibility of the effectiveness of all functional areas of the church.
  6. Develop annual financial plans that fund the accomplishment of the strategic plan and meet critical financial objectives such as established cash reserve levels.
  7. Lead church planting efforts including development of a strategy, networking with other church planting focused churches for funding and provision of other needed resources as well as identification, development, and leadership of lead church planters.
  8. Champion the development of infrastructure by all ministry and support areas that supports healthy, long-term growth of the church.
  9. Lead the church’s building programs including capital fund raising campaigns, master planning, design and architecture, contractor selection, and construction.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

This position requires a minimum of 10 to 15 years of experience as a senior leader in a corporate business environment. Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Technology, or other related field is required. Master’s work in Biblical studies is a plus. The successful individual must have a proven track record of effective leadership, judgment, and above reproach character.

Connections Pastor Job Description

General Description

The Connections Pastor is responsible for all aspects of ensuring the connection and care of the congregation from the first-time visit through full involvement and participation in the Christian community. This includes the development and leadership of newcomer engagement, pastoral care, overseeing of all communication with the congregation, and weekend service guest services.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Lead a team in the development of infrastructure to ensure the existence of a solid “connection and care environment” for all YOUR CHURCH attendees.
  2. Develop a team of “lay pastors” who will serve immediately following services and during relevant special events, providing attendees with a “next step” following a service or other significant teaching or experience.
  3. Establish and maintain a pastoral staff rotation (weddings, funerals, hospitalizations, baptism services, etc.) ensuring a pastor is available to the congregation when needed.
  4. Regularly communicate pastoral care needs and statuses to the rest of YOUR CHURCH’s Ministry Staff.
  5. Establish, maintain, and expand a Christian counseling function at YOUR CHURCH.
  6. Identify support and recovery needs at YOUR CHURCH, and launch, equip, and lead support and recovery groups to meet those needs.
  7. Lead the Guest Services ministry as part of YOUR CHURCH’s weekend experiences.
  8. Lead the creative use and proactive upkeep of adult guest services facilities.
  9. Lead Next Steps experiences as the beginning point in an attendee’s connection and involvement at YOUR CHURCH. Initiate new/additional experiences and classes as needed.
  10. Maintain and improve YOUR CHURCH’s two primary vehicles for congregational communication – YOURCHURCHWebsite.com and the YOUR CHURCH Mobile App.
  11. Lead YOUR CHURCH’s Membership process, including facilitation, follow-up, and record keeping.
  12. Lead the scheduling, programming, and overall facilitation of routine baptism services.
  13. Function as a member of YOUR CHURCH’s pastoral staff performing baptism services, weddings, funerals, hospital visits, etc., as part of a rotation schedule.
  14. Assist in developing an annual departmental budget and manage spending to budget.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

This position requires a minimum of 5 to 7 years of experience as a staff member in a ministry leadership capacity. Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree in Biblical studies or related fields is required. (Extensive ministry experience, in some cases, can be substituted.) The successful individual will be a strong leader with a solid work ethic and the ability to administrate as a department head. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, database, web configuration/maintenance, and other related applications is preferred.
